Company History

Several years ago, while wrestling with what he wanted to do with the second half of his life, Tom Tucker re-read a favorite childhood book, Watership Down, by Richard Adams. He was fifty at the time and fully engaged in his career at Lehman Brothers. He planned to leave Wall Street in 1996, but his step thereafter remained a unknown.

Watership Down tells the story of the survival, leadership, and courage of a group of rabbits, including a visionary named Fiver. The group sets out to find a better way of life. This idea of creating a better society literally from the ground up appealed to him. The idea of creating a non-profit, at the heart of which would be a free residential summer camp for inner-city children, took hold.

With operations that began in 2000, the Fiver Children's Foundation has become a life line for kids growing up in the inner city. Working with a group of motivated educators who inspire and care for the children through the most formative years of their lives, Fiver currently serves children for ten years - from age 8 through high school graduation.
