Our Philosophy
Each year Girl Scouts of Northern California hires over 250 individuals from all over the United States and even around the world, to bring the magic of summer camp to nearly 4,500 girls. Our camps are designed to provide a unique atmosphere where girls are respected, nurtured, challenged and empowered. Under the guidance of our staff, campers participate in activities that build self-esteem, develop skills, increase knowledge, enhance teamwork & cooperative behaviors, and of course HAVE FUN! Our camps are accredited by the American Camp Association*, which is a national organization that sets high standards for the health and safety of campers and staff and the delivery of quality programs.
We value the role that staff members play in bringing the camp mission to life. Working as a team, we create a caring and supportive environment that respects each child as an individual and allows them to feel good about who they are. We are looking for individuals who share this commitment to making a difference in the lives of girls.
Our Campers
Our campers are all girls who range in age from 6-17 and who represent a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. We are looking for staff that will thrive and promote our inclusive environment at all of our camps. Girls who attend Resident Camp come from all over Northern California, with some attending from other states. Campers at Camp Metro Day Camp live primarily in and around San Jose. Girls do not have to be in Girl Scouting to register for our summer camps.
Our Camps
All of our camps, both resident and day, are designed with themed group programs in which girls pre-register. Groups called units, range in size from 8-24, with 2-5 Counselors working with each unit. Activities for each unit are focused on a theme and have specific curriculum and outcomes design for each of the unit programs. Traditional camp activities, such as special campfires, hikes, arts and crafts, outdoor cooking, teambuilding games and other all-camp themed events are held throughout the sessions and bring all campers together

Our History
Founder Juliette Gordon Low organized the first group of Girl Scouts on March 12, 1912 in Savannah, Georgia. The Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. was chartered by the United States Congress in 1950. Since then, through membership in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, GSUSA has grown to be part of a worldwide family of 10 million girls and adults in 148 counties.
In October of 2007, The Girl Scouts of Northern California participated in an historic national Girl Scout movement in which Girl Scout councils aligned with other councils to create high-capacity councils across the United States. Through this national “realignment”, the Konocti Girl Scout Council, the Girl Scouts of Napa-Solano, the Girl Scouts of San Francisco Bay Area, the Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County, the Girl Scouts of Sierra Cascade, and a portion of the Girl Scouts of Winema Council became the Girl Scouts of Northern California.
